Book Review : Ashvamedha - The Game Of Power - Aparna Sinha

There is a saying, "With great power comes great responsibility", and these two are directly proportional to one's ability, not only to manage them but also to acquire them at first. Power without responsibility is a failure, unless you have enough power to overcome the irresponsible acts. Another question that is of concern is, whether the power is bestowed upon you or you have obtained from someone, somehow, somewhere.

Can the radius of the circle be more than the diameter? Can the power be greater than the responsibility? The one who manages to be responsible, effective and overcomes the constraints with the power, succeeds along with everyone. Power is also about the rate of doing work and the energy you spend, this may sound technical, but this is what power is all about. Individuals can be success stories, but not powerful stories. To be powerful, you got to be in a relationship with responsibility.

I recently read Ashvamedha, a book by the debut author Aparna Sinha. The tagline of the book, The Game Of Power, sums up the entire book in just four words. The book is about power competing against power, not to be the super power, but to be the supreme of all. What happens when the power clash? Does both the powers collapse? That's for you to read and find out as a reader.

The story of the book, Ashvamedha, is about an honest IPS officer, Ashwin Jamwal, who dreams to bring about a change, a much needed one according to him. He tries everything that he can, sees improvements and continues to do so, but then this success is very short lived. He even has to give up on his IAS role and switch to Politics as he realizes, it's all about power, it is all about the battle.

Ashvamedha is an end to end political thriller, a mystery coupled with the strong character definition wherein the words speak as loudly as the action itself. Ashvamedha will keep your curiosity levels always high. The book stands true to the blurb and you get what you would have expected from it. The intensity of the characters and the choice of words compliments the entire narrative and successfully creates an impact in completeness.

Apart from a few typos and formatting errors, Ashvamedha is a fast paced narration with good plots and subplots. Until you have reached the last paragraph of the book, you will find yourself holding the book for an actual revelation, with timely plot twist and no abruptness, either in the plot or the character, you will be amazed at how the story shapes.
